LIONS AT PETERBOROUGH NEXT MONDAY

LEICESTER have agreed a double fixture change which will see them visit Peterborough in the Sports Insure Premiership next Monday (May 29, 7.30pm).

Their second trip of the season to the East of England Arena will now take place on Monday August 21, rather than Thursday July 13.

It does mean they will be without skipper Chris Harris for the first of those two matches, as he is competing in a Grand Prix qualifier on Monday, although he would actually have been unavailable on the second date.

The Panthers had been due to race against Sheffield on Monday, but the Tigers were set to be far more heavily affected by the GP qualifiers.

Lions co-promoter Stewart Dickson explained: “Sheffield assisted us by agreeing to go to Peterborough on July 13 which was a date when we would have been without Bomber due to his World Longtrack commitments.

“When it became clear that they would be without three riders at Peterborough next Monday we were approached to go there instead, especially as our first visit there had already been rained off at Easter so needed to be re-scheduled.

“I agreed it prior to our home meeting on Monday, because clubs need to help each other in this league and with the fixture situation as it is, one of our matches at Peterborough was going to be without Bomber regardless.

“Sheffield going there without three riders wouldn’t have been good for the sport, but I can assure everyone our mindset is still on looking to win at Peterborough and we already have a guest lined up.

“We did agree things verbally before Richard Lawson’s crash last night, although we are very hopeful that he will be back by next Monday. He feels okay but they want him in hospital for the next couple of days to keep an eye on him.”
