KENT 59 LION CUBS 31

A HEAVILY depleted Roger Webster Lion Cubs side were beaten 59-31 at Kent in the National Development League on Tuesday.

Racing without Dan and Joe Thompson, engaged on senior duty on the same night, the Cubs were always going to be up against it, although as always their efforts couldn’t be questioned.

Stand-in captain Tom Spencer led the way with paid-10 and there was another highly promising display from reserve Mickie Simpson, who won Heat 2 and added an excellent second place in Heat 4 after making a good start.

Guests Danno Verge and Luke Harris also got stuck in for the cause despite not being NDL regulars this season, although it was no surprise that the Royals’ heat-leaders dominated proceedings.

Jake Mulford and Ben Morley both scored full maximums with Dan Gilkes and Alex Spooner paid for full houses as the home side kept their title hopes alive and boosted their race points difference in the process.
