Leicester’s two mascots Dan and Joe Thompson have pledged their future to the club.

The twins, who will turn fourteen next month, have ridden extensively at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena since taking up the sport and are excited at the prospect of one day making their senior debuts for the Lions.

Dan and Joe’s father Darren said: “From the word go the whole family have been made welcome at Leicester and the boys are thrilled to be offered an opportunity to play an even greater part in the club that has supported them from the moment they walked through the door.”

The brothers have already made their mark at junior level having each won a British title in the 125cc class. Dan and Joe moved up into the 250cc section last year and are presently busy preparing their bikes in readiness to race at the highest level of the British Youth Championship this season.

“It is a relatively quick transition that Dan and Joe are making from 250cc to 500cc sized engines in one year but they both believe they can handle the extra power and speed that comes with the change” added Darren.

Dan and Joe will be launching a competition this season on match days at Leicester. Fans will have an opportunity to test their gating skills to see if they can drop the clutch faster than the times set earlier by the Lions team. The Twins will have a recorder attached to the handlebars of a bike and the person who achieves the quickest time will win an upgrade to a VIP experience that night at Leicester.

Promoter Dave Darcy said: “Nothing is too much trouble for Dan and Joe who have given up their time on many occasions to help spread the word about Leicester Speedway. We have watched them develop their skills year on year and during their time with us they have built up quite a following here at Leicester. Both are quietly ambitious and humble which is a credit to them and I know for a fact that Lions fans will be very pleased with the news that the boys have pledged their future to the club as they have taken a great interest in watching them ride each week at Leicester.”
