SARJ READY FOR POOLE BATTLE

FIRED-UP Lions reserve James Sarjeant believes that Leicester have “fresh impetus” with new signings Charles Wright and Ricky Wells.

Sarj was unbeaten after two rides until Wednesday night’s clash at King’s Lynn was abandoned following the injuries to Lewis Kerr and Kasper Andersen for the Stars.

Lions were trailing by just two points after Heat 7 when the home promotion had no option but to call a halt to proceedings.

Sarjeant admitted: “I was gutted to see my mate Lewis get injured. I hope that both he and Kasper heal quickly, it’s always hard to watch a fellow rider get hurt.

“It was one of those crazy nights. There was a lot of waiting around for riders and fans. It was no one’s fault, just how the incidents happened really.

“Until that point I thought we had shown that we are now a tough side to beat. The inclusion of Charles and Ricky makes us look very solid in the middle order. It’s sad to see Danny King out of the team and I hope he can get fit soon too.

“I was really pleased to win Heat 2 and then hold off Niels-Kristian Iversen in the re-run of Heat 6. I need to produce that kind of form more consistently now.”

Next up for the Lions is a massive clash with Poole on Monday night where they need a win to kick on for a Play-Off push.

Sarjeant added: “I’ve been lucky to be involved in a few Play-Offs in the Premiership and Championship. It’s where you want to be as a rider for the fans as well.

“We’ll have to really produce some top form to do that. We can’t afford any slip-ups and that starts with Poole on Monday night.

“I think we look good as a side now. Charles and Ricky have given us a fresh impetus. The spirit is good in the camp and I feel all of us really are fired-up to hit some form.”
